Elephant and the Rider

Change is a human and emotional process. The majority of people like predictable patterns and are  comfortable with their ways of working. When change is introduced, people often become fearful  about what the change means for them.

It is essential to keep in mind that people experience and react to change very differently and that as  leaders, our goal is to be able to understand how the people on our team will react to change and to  be able to properly plan for it.

A commonly held belief is that human behavior is the result of rational decision making based on  available information. A closer look into the science of behavior reveals the powerful role our emotions  play in our decision-making process. In this animated video, we look at the behavior change process  using Jonathan Haidt’s analogy of an elephant, a rider, and a path.
