Re-engaging and Beginning 2022
Happy New Year and welcome back! We hope you had a joyous holiday and restful break with family and friends. As you re-engage today and prepare for the year ahead, we want to share with you some helpful, simple tips to support you and your team.
Our teams are depending on us and it is important that we remain focused, positive, lead authentically, and provide continual communication and touch points. We hope you find these tips helpful.
Begin with you: As you start your day, self-reflect on your break, accomplishments in 2021 and how you are feeling. Are you showing up today feeling rested, calm, and grounded? How can you begin the year leveraging your natural talents and strengths as a leader? Remember to take care of yourself first and to be your best for others. When needed, seek out your manager or a trusted colleague for guidance and support. It is also beneficial to have resources outside of your stakeholder group for support.
Connect: Check in with your team. How do you want to re-engage with your team and start the new year?
Ideas include:
Sending a welcome back email to the team
Schedule a brief team meeting or huddle
Walk around the office floor or check in on team members virtually
Ask questions; how was their holiday break? What did they do? How do they feel about coming back? What questions do they have?
Communicate: As you engage with people- ask questions and listen carefully to their responses, to what they are truly saying. Pay attention to any trends or themes that surface, especially those positive messages that you can reinforce for the whole group.
Focus: Outline what matters most and things you can control. Clearly outline what you should focus on. Reiterate key initiatives and Q1 goals and objectives to the team to help them remain focused. Build off momentum and successes from 2021.
Prepare: Give yourself ample time next week to attend any planned events, read relative communications and tools, and spend time connecting with your team.
We hope you find these tips helpful! Happy New Year.
